Benefits for business boost with fibre build

Date: 12 October 2011

Businesses across the Taupo region are being offered a free connection to ultra-fast broadband with the announcement by UnisonFibre that its build is commencing this week.

Sales and Marketing Manager, Wayne Baird, said the build would be undertaken in three stages, with the first stage being carried out in the East Taupō industrial area.

“Businesses will benefit from superior capability, with better access to more IT and communications services.

“We are urging the Taupō community to take up the offer of a free connection, so they can utilise the benefits of a fibre-driven business and compete on a national and international level more effectively,” he said.

Taupō Mayor, Rick Cooper said Unison should be commended for its initiative to bring fibre to the region, and is delighted the Taupo district business community can avail of the benefits fibre will bring.

“This is a great result for Taupō businesses and a positive step forward for Taupō. Information is so vital in today’s marketplace, so anything that can improve the flow of information is a real boost. I hope that everyone takes up this generous offer,” he said.

Local Retail Service Provider, Neocom, has already started meeting with Taupō businesses and is signing them up.

“It’s a great opportunity for Taupo businesses to start making use of IT services that can be delivered over a Fibre connection. VoIP (voice over internet), off site digital backups, cloud computing, video conferencing etc. It’s great to see the reliability and speeds that fibre offers being offered to the SME market” said Neocom’s Technical Manager, Tom Chamberlain

Mr Baird said the advantages of fibre for the Taupō community span beyond an ability to compete with New Zealand’s larger cities.

“It means Taupō can provide a better service for their customers. This will be particularly relevant to the hospitality industry, where accommodation providers in a tourism mecca like Taupō will notice how much their customers appreciate faster and more secure internet connections.”

Following the build in the East Taupō industrial area, fibre will also be rolled out on Spa Road and within the Taupō town centre. The entire build is expected to be completed by May 2012.

“This is a great opportunity for Taupō business to catch up with the rest of the world and become more competitive. We are already seeing huge interest in what we are offering and urge businesses to register their interest at getonit.co.nz,” said Mr Baird.
