OUR NEWSBusinesses get free ultrafast fibre connection offerDate: 28 July 2011
Hawke’s Bay, Rotorua and Taupo businesses are being offered a free connection to ultra-fast broadband following UnisonFibre’s announcement of its preferred retail service partners.
UnisonFibre marketing and sales manager Wayne Baird said a campaign called Get On It is aimed at connecting as many businesses as possible to ultra-fast broadband. Mr Baird said this was a major step forward for businesses in the region as they look to compete nationally and globally. An incentive to connect is a free installation, potentially saving businesses over $5000. UnisonFibre, part of the Unison Networks group of companies, announced it will partner with 10 retail service providers (RSP’s), three of which are local companies Airnet, Neocom and Wasp. The other companies are FX Networks, Solarix, iTco, Safe NZ, Datacom, Modica and VIP. They all provide a range of telecommunication services such as high speed internet, phone and voice services, data storage and cloud services. “We’ve been working closely with these RSP’s and are now be able to match businesses with the best fit RSP based on their telecommunication needs. “This will all be done by the new website getonit.co.nz which will automatically match them with one or more preferred providers,” he said. At the forefront of the campaign is an interactive website www.getonit.co.nz which features business leaders such as Xero founder Rod Drury and PORSE founder Jenny Yule who are already experiencing the benefits of fibre - such as high quality teleconferencing, a more reliable connection and fibre broadband speeds up to 1Gbps (that’s 1,000Mbps, up to hundreds of times faster than current typical broadband speeds). UnisonFibre has completed a 140 kilometre fibre loop through Hastings, Napier and Havelock North to improve its electricity network and they can now install a ‘tail’ into businesses along the route. “We will be doing a staged installation, starting with Hastings central and Onekawa. We urge all businesses to take up this offer now, regardless of when the installation will occur. “Some local businesses, schools and health providers are already seeing a transformation in how they use technology. “This is a great opportunity for Hawke’s Bay business to catch up with the rest of the world and become more competitive. We expect to see huge interest in what we are offering and urge businesses to register their interest at getonit.co.nz .” "On fibre, you are just a click away from doing business with anyone in New Zealand or overseas where distance is no longer a barrier, the opportunities are endless to growing your business,” Mr Drury says. Ms Yule says "Unison's superior fibre network provides us with a world class solution, for a business network that services over 5000 PORSE families along with 5000 nannies, in-home educators and students.” While Rob Sturch said “teachers are really excited about this new fibre opportunity and having the ability to get really high quality information into their lessons. It really is a step forward and is a part of the future.” Business breakfasts demonstrating the benefits of fibre, with a yet to be announced guest speaker, will be held in Napier on August 8, Hastings on August 9 and Rotorua on August 4.
